Winnie Pinnie Blog Tour- Closed Back Hack

Welcome to Jellylou Creations, one of the stops in the Little Lizard King Winnie Pinnie blog tour.  Have you purchased this amazing pattern yet?  Right now you can save 20% through Aug 1 (11:59pm EST) with code WPTour in the LLK Shop!

The Winnie Pinnie is amazing!!  I love the lines in the bodice and the swirls you can create with different fabrics on the skirt!  The Winnie Pinnie pattern has an amazing open back that I really love.  Unfortunately, some schools do not allow open back clothing.  If you love this pattern but still want to make it for school then keep on reading!  I will show you another way to make this dress with a closed back that is dress code friendly.

To create this dress with a closed back you basically make it the same way as you would with the open back except you cut out the 4 back bodice pattern pieces a little different.  I found it was best to cut my pieces with a straight line matching the longer back tab in the original pattern piece from the open back pattern.  See this photo.
Your new back bodice pieces will look like the photo below.

After cutting your fabric pieces you will then assemble the entire dress as described in Little Lizard King's instructions.  You can then close the bodice with 3-4 buttons as needed.  I like to try the bodice on my daughter before adding the buttons and skirt to make sure it fits just right.

In the end you will have the same amazing look with a closed back.  This bodice has some really great lines that give this dress a great look and fit.  I think my daughter approved!

I hope you can find this hack useful!  Please feel free to leave me comments below.

"Ice Cream Delight" collection.

I am so excited to offer my first official collection!  In honor of everything summer I am introducing "Ice Cream Delight"!  Here you will find a dress, coordinating skirt, romper, and boys bow tie too!  I know how much fun it can be to coordinate the kids clothes for vacations, photo shoots and more!  Starting Thursday, June 16, 2016 these will be available for purchase in my shop at www.JellylouCreations.com

To help make this collection extra special Maddy's Rose Boutique and Parachet have teamed up with Jellylou Creations to make perfectly coordinating accessories that you can purchase!

A few short months ago I decided to offer my first collection.  I have a lot of customers that request sibling sets so I thought it would fun to offer one amazing fabric in a few different fashions.  I was searching for the perfect ice cream fabric when I came by a new fabric line called "Boardwalk Delight" at Art Gallery Fabrics.  This fabric was designed by Dana Willard from Made Everyday.  It is her very first line of fabric and I just love it!  I hope she designs more in the future!

The first item I designed is the "Ice Cream Delight" Dress.  It has a black and white knit  bodice with shoulder ties.  It also has a sash at the waist for a perfect fit.  The fabrics are light and comfy.  Perfect for summer wear and play.  The skirt has the colorful ice cream cone print while the sash and tie fabric consists of ice cream sprinkles!  (I'm already getting hungry!)  The bodice has a gorgeous decorative gem button that little girls simply adore.

Life is "Berry Sweet!"

The days are finally getting warmer and I am excited to release some new designs for summer!  The first thing that comes to my mind is summer cook-outs and picnics at the park.  Enjoying the summer sun and having fun!  In our area we also love to go berry picking at the local farms.  We drive out to a field of strawberries or blueberries and fill our baskets to the brim!  This is something I really enjoyed as a child and now get to share with my own kids!  In honor of summer berry picking I am now selling the Berry Sweet Tunic in my shop!  Check out the cuteness!  I also love that this top has a lot of red white and blue.  A perfect outfit for the fourth of July too!  It can be paired with some ruffled shorts, pants, leggings, or bloomers!  Check out the tunic now at www.jellyloucreations.com
Feel free to share your favorite summer memories below!

Welcome to Jellylou Custom Creations!

I am excited to share my life and sewing adventures with you my readers. My name is Jennifer and I love to sew!  I grew up in a town just east of Indianapolis, Indiana surrounded by corn fields.  Many of my days were spent playing outdoors and making things for fun.  I started sewing when I was very young.  I remember watching my Mom sew lovely things for myself and my dolls.  In those days sewing clothes was actually less expensive than buying them at the store, but to be honest I think she mostly sewed because she loved making things.  Early on my Mom taught me the basics so that I could sew my own funny little Barbie clothes from her big bag of fabric scraps.  It was something fun that would keep me busy for hours.

As I got older my interests grew more and more in art and design.  I took art classes and drafting classes.  This all led me to college where I picked up a degree in Interior Design.  I worked as a Designer for a few companies in Chicago and then Indianapolis planing office buildings for big companies and hospitals.  After I had my first child I felt a huge urge to be home.  I soon quit working and stayed home.  I was very busy watching my kids and going on play dates but I still needed to fulfill my creative outlet.  I was soon inspired by my younger sisters who were creating items and selling them on Etsy.  After having my third baby I began sewing again.  I started with small things and grew from there as customers would ask for different things.  This is when Jellylou Creations was born.

Jellylou Creations is now my full time work.  I manage, create, sew, and budget everything involved with the company.  I am currently a one girl show!  It is so much fun.  I love all the friendships I have made through this adventure with customers and fellow sewists and pattern makers!  I would not be here with out any of them.  They help me make what Jellylou Custom Creations is today.  Thank you!
